Emma first came across pilates in 2001 during her professional dance training course at The Laban Centre in London. Mat-based Pilates classes were a part of the training curriculum, and after a knee injury Emma relied on weekly reformer sessions to help keep her body working as it was meant to.

22 years, a marriage and a child later she decided to follow her passion for pilates and retrained under Future Fit.

She quickly became a regular teacher for Stevenage Leisure and ran a few community classes in and around Stevenage. Later teaching at David Lloyd Stevenage and Luton, Odyssey and The Evergreen Wellness Centre. In 2016 she felt the need to group her classes to one location so she could focus on the teaching quality rather than travelling between classes. In June 2016 The Pilates Corner was opened and has gone from strength to strength. The aim to become the “Go to” place for Pilates in Stevenage.

DIANNE LUSCOMBE

STUDIO MANAGER

LEVEL 3 QUALIFIED PILATES INSTRUCTOR

DIANNE TEACHES: PILATES, SMALL EQUIPMENT & TRIGGER POINT PILATES.

Hello, I’m Dianne. My background is in science; I have a degree in Chemistry & Physiology, and I spent 28yrs working in the pharmaceutical industry helping to develop new medications for asthma.

In January 2016 I took redundancy so that I’d have more time to spend with my 3 children and have a less stressful life, and I’ve never looked back.  In my first week I joined the leisure centre and took my first Pilates class , which fortunately was with Emma. I started going regularly and when she opened up the studio I started attending some of her other classes such as Barre, Piyo and Power, as well as continuing to do Pilates. I loved it and noticed that my body felt much stronger and I no longer had lower back pain issues.

My husband suggested that as I clearly loved it so much then I should teach it, so with Emma’s support I enrolled with Future Fit training last October and in March I qualified as a level 3 Mat-based Pilates instructor, including Pilates for Common Orthopaedic conditions. I’m currently studying for my Pre & Postnatal exercise qualification.

My beginners classes focus on teaching the basics with good technique, in a small class environment, so that everyone can get lots of attention, in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

JO MACE

BARRE & SOULFUSION INSTRUCTOR

JO TEACHES: THURSDAY BARRE CLASSES & TUESDAY SOULFUSION CLASSES

Hi I’m Jo, and am really excited to be teaching Barre. I started dancing from a very young age and took grades in ballet, modern and tap up to teaching level as a teenager. I developed a keen interest in contemporary dance and Pilates as an adult and became a qualified Jazzercise instructor in 2005.

After having my two children, I re-discovered my love of ballet when I started attending adult ballet classes in Hitchin. In the past couple of years, I have taken Royal Academy of Dance exams and gained a Distinction in Grades 5 and 6. I have also achieved Honours in adult medal tests from the International Dance Teachers Association.

I discovered the BarreConcept method after starting classes with Emma. BarreConcept has really improved my flexibility and muscle tone without adding bulk and has helped to flatten my abdominals. I love the unique combination of Pilates, yoga, strength from sports conditioning added to the grace and technique of ballet. My classes will help you develop a lean physique, a strong core, decrease stress and improve your posture and stamina.

When I’m not dancing, I work for the National Childbirth Trust helping couples book on to antenatal and postnatal courses. As a self-confessed ballet geek, I am delighted to bring my love of ballet and fitness to the Pilates with Emma studio!

ADELE JENKINS

PILATES INSTRUCTOR

LEVEL 3 QUALIFIED PILATES INSTRUCTOR
ADELE TEACHES: Cover instructor when possible

Hello, I’m Adele and I am really excited about joining the team and teaching at The Pilates Corner. My original career was in Marketing but when taking time off to have my son I fell in love with Pilates, all thanks to Emma.

My Pilates journey started back in 2014 when I attended Emma’s classes with a friend, who was recommended Pilates as a way to relieve her back pain, already a Personal Trainer and working for the NHS with the physiotherapist, my hours changed and unfortunately I had to leave Emma’s classes, missing Pilates so much I decided to qualify in teaching Pilates, enrolling with Future Fit and qualifying in 2015 in Level 3 Mat Based Pilates, including Pre and Post-natal Pilates and Pilates with small equipment.

In 2015 I set up a couple of classes in the village I live in and have never looked back, I love that I am helping people feel comfortable and relaxed about exercise not judged, motivating people to feel good about themselves. Joining The Pilates Corner feels like I am coming home. I cannot wait to bring heart pumping fun to the Power Pilates classes developing your strength and stamina and improving your posture and muscle tone in Pilates. I hope I can motivate you all to achieve your goals.

When I am not teaching I am studying, reading or walking my 2 beautiful dogs, see you all soon in the studio.

ELLENA THOMPSON

BARRE & PILATES INSTRUCTOR

ELLENA TEACHES: PILATES ON WEDNESDAY MORNINGS, LOW INTENSITY PILATES ON WEDNESDAY LUNCHTIME AND PILATES ON SUNDAY MORNINGS

Hi, I’m Ellena.

I come from a performing background having graduated from the Musical Theatre Academy in London. I have always been into fitness and have danced all my life. When leaving drama school I decided to train and take my fitness qualifications.

It is one of the best decisions I made and I am very lucky that I get to teach group classes alongside auditioning and having performing contracts… Two jobs I absolutely love!

So when I’m not teaching- you may find me singing and dancing (or puppeteering) on a stage near you.

I am very passionate about making fitness enjoyable and accessible to every body. I am always there to motivate you to get the most out of every class whilst also leaving with a smile on your face!

As well as my group fitness, I also have my pre-post natal qualification and first aid training.

ELOISE BURDON

LEVEL 3 QUALIFIED PILATES INSTRUCTOR

ELOISE TEACHES: BACK TO BASICS PILATES ON TUESDAY EVENINGS & SOME WEDNESDAY EVENING & SATURDAY MORNING PILATES

Hi, I’m Eloise

My interest in Pilates sparked once I started taking classes with the local leisure centre in 2013 after graduating from university and I have never looked back. After 8 years of being a participant I decided to train with Future Fit to gain my L3 Pilates instructor qualification, which I achieved in the summer of 2021.

Pilates has become such an important part of my life and I can really feel the differences and benefits of regularly practising. Pilates has helped me personally with back issues by increasing strength and stability as well as helping me disconnect from the stressors of daily life. I enjoy how Pilates can help people become stronger and more confident within themselves.

As well as Pilates, I enjoy a variety of fitness activities including high intensity cardio and weight training.

I am currently studying Pilates for Common Orthopaedic conditions and Pre & Postnatal exercise qualifications alongside Reformer Pilates.
