What is Wall Pilates?

Wall Pilates is exactly what it sounds like, Pilates exercises done using a wall as your main piece of equipment. No machines, no kit to buy, just you and a very reliable wall.

It works in two lovely ways. First, the wall gives you support. Standing and seated exercises become more stable, balance work feels safer, and people who aren't confident getting up and down from the floor can still get a genuinely good workout. That makes it brilliant for beginners, older adults and anyone rebuilding strength after injury or surgery.

Second, and this is the bit that surprises people, the wall gives you feedback and resistance. Pressing into it tells you straight away whether you're aligned properly, whether your core is switched on, whether you're cheating with your shoulders. The wall never lies. Exercises like wall squats, wall planks and standing roll-downs can be quietly brutal in the best possible way.

In our classes we use the wall for both purposes, sometimes to make an exercise more accessible, sometimes to make it harder. Either way, you're working at the level that suits you.

It's a great example of what we believe here: you don't need fancy equipment to do Pilates properly. You need good teaching, a bit of consistency, and occasionally a wall.
