What if I can't do the exercises?

Then we change the exercise. That's not a consolation prize, it's how good Pilates teaching works.

Every movement we teach has several versions: a foundation version, a progression, and usually two or three adaptations in between. Can't get down to the floor easily? We'll do it seated or standing. Shoulder won't go overhead? We'll work within the range you have. Knees complain in kneeling? Cushions, or a different position entirely. Our instructors are trained to adapt on the spot, for real bodies with real histories.

That includes bodies recovering from surgery, living with arthritis or osteoporosis, managing back pain, or simply feeling stiff after years at a desk. Emma is Level 4 qualified with Assessor designation and 13 years of teaching behind her, and the whole team teaches beyond the textbook.

With a maximum of 12 people in the room, we can actually see you. If something isn't working, we'll offer you an alternative before you've had to say a word, though you're always welcome to say so too. "That one's not happening today" is a perfectly normal sentence in our studio.

So there's no exercise you have to be able to do. There's only the version of each exercise that's right for you today, and that version might be different next month. That's progress, and it's the whole point.
